Job summary

Ulysses in San Francisco seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own structural and mechanical design for underwater robotic systems. You’ll design pressure housings, sealing, thruster assemblies and more, ensuring autonomous operation in harsh marine environments.

This hands-on role sits at the interface of design and fabrication. You’ll collaborate with electrical, software and acoustics teams to develop assemblies, integrate sensors, and take parts from CAD to ocean deployment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Hands-on experience with ocean hardware.
• Collaboration with electronics/firmware teams for interfaces.
• Proficient in CAD/CAE tools and version control.
• Knowledge of sensor integration, actuators, and comms.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Design and integrate mechanical subsystems for autonomous surface & subsurface vehicles.
• Prototype from concept to fully functional hardware and test in ocean environments.
• Work with the electronics team to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electronic systems.
• Validate designs in the lab and in real-world ocean conditions.
