Job summary

Northern Star Resources Limited invites applications for a Senior Safety & Training Coordinator to support the Pogo underground operation in Alaska. You will ensure MSHA-compliant training and safety procedures while implementing a robust skills-based program for the Mining Department, delivering safe, productive operations.

The role reports to the Project Manager and requires experience in MSHA regulations, training program development, and supervision of crews in mechanized underground mines.

Qualifications

• Blue Card certified (Underground).
• Current Driver’s License.
• Experience in policies, procedures, competencies, and risk assessments.
• Interpretation and application of MSHA Act & Regulations.
• Supervision of employees.
• Experience in mechanized hard-rock underground mining.
• Incident investigation and reporting.
• Familiarity with INX database modules such as InTuition, InFlight and InControl.
• Experience in competency-based training and assessment methods.
• Auditing or inspection experience.
• Good skills in spreadsheet, presentation, word processing and database applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
• Report writing and presentation skills.
• Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain procedural systems, processes and training for underground mining operations per MSHA Act & Regulations.
• Ensure personnel are inducted and trained and aware of workplace rules and procedures.
• Promote compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
• Facilitate incident investigations to establish root cause and corrective actions.
• Facilitate Formal Risk Assessment process.
• Inspect underground areas, stockpiles, waste dumps for safe operations.
• Monitor operator compliance with procedures; conduct task observations.
• Inspect/maintain emergency equipment and systems.
• Host daily safety meetings for underground mining.
• Maintain training records and training register.
• Provide training opportunities fairly and objectively.
• Review training requests based on performance and interest.
• Participate in appeals related to training opportunities.
• Prepare upgrade criteria for non-exempt job classifications.
