Job summary

Northern Star Pogo LLC is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for the Pogo Mine in Alaska. You will supervise a team of mining engineers, graduates and interns, ensuring safe planning and execution aligned with NSR standards and MSHA requirements.

The role involves leading mine planning, coordinating with stakeholders, and performing financial analyses to justify projects, while maintaining safety and productivity in a challenging remote camp environment.

Qualifications

• 4–10 years of progressively responsible mining experience, with preferred 3+ years underground mining.
• MS Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Experience with Deswik, Vulcan, MineCad, AutoCAD, VnetPC, EPS, Qualtrax.
• Experience with Long Hole Open Stoping and paste backfill preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team and take on increasing responsibility.
• Valid Driver's License; MSHA compliance knowledge.
• Post-offer physical, drug test, and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train and mentor mining engineers, graduates and interns.
• Ensure work is planned and conducted safely per NSR standards and MSHA.
• Participate in incident investigations and complete allocated actions.
• Attend and/or lead mine planning and scheduling meetings.
• Maintain engagement with stakeholders (NSMS, Geology, Survey, Safety).
• Conduct financial evaluations and cost analyses for projects.
• Complete budget work to deliver expansions and productivity improvements.
• Perform underground workplace inspections for safety and quality.
• Identify and resolve safety hazards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
