Job summary

Northern Star Resources Limited (NST) is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for the Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotating camp schedule. The role focuses on supervising engineers, ensuring safe planning, and delivering production targets in challenging conditions.

The successful candidate will lead a team, oversee mine planning, and collaborate with geology, safety, and operations to optimize performance while adhering to MSHA and NSR standards.

Qualifications

• Four to ten years progressively responsible mining experience, with at least 3 years underground mining.
• Experience with MS Office and specialty software such as Deswick/Vulcan, Minecad, AutoCAD, VnetPC, EPS, and Qualtrax.
• Experience with Deswik, Vulcan or similar mine design/scheduling software; Deswik IS preferred.
• Experience in Long Hole Open Stoping, preferably with paste backfill.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team and assume higher responsibilities.
• Valid Driver's License; knowledge of MSHA regulations.
• Must pass post-offer physical, drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train and mentor mining engineers, graduates and interns.
• Ensure all work is planned safely and in accordance with NSR standards and MSHA.
• Participate in incident investigations and close allocated actions.
• Attend and/or lead mine planning and scheduling meetings.
• Maintain engagement with key stakeholders (NSMS, Geology, Survey, Safety and contractors).
• Perform financial evaluations and cost analyses for operating and capital project justification.
• Complete budget work to deliver expansionary and productivity improvements.
• Conduct workplace inspections in the underground mine to ensure quality and safety.
• Identify, communicate and resolve safety hazards.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
