Job summary

South32 Group Operations Pty. Ltd. in Arizona is seeking a Senior Underground Health and Safety Advisor to advance health, safety, and emergency readiness across the Hermosa Project.

Based near Patagonia, you will strengthen HSS management systems while working with project teams, contractors, and leaders to evolve safety controls as development transitions to operations. You will lead investigations, support training, and ensure regulatory compliance, seeking continuous improvement in hazard

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline required.
• Minimum of 5 years of underground hard rock mining/underground construction experience.
• Experience supporting major capital projects (EPCM/owner/client).
• Knowledge of underground mining methods, hazards, and risk controls.
• Familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Act and related regs.
• Strong written and verbal communication across organizational levels.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to improve safety management systems, programs, and processes.
• Maintain mine rescue readiness, compliance, and training programs.
• Support industrial hygiene initiatives and post-injury case management.
• Develop and implement HSS operating systems for project-to-operations transition.
• Ensure HSS procedures and readiness across contractor and company work.
• Coordinate with contractors to align safety expectations and systems.
• Deliver safety training programs and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in emergency management planning and drills.
• Lead or participate in incident investigations using ICAM methodology.
• Coach HSS team members to enhance capability and readiness.
• Develop assurance activities for hazard identification and risk control.
• Monitor compliance with federal/state/company health and safety requirements.
• Track safety KPIs and drive improvement.
