Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist in Birmingham, AL. The role focuses on accurate, timely payroll processing for 600+ employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.

You will work with HR and Finance to maintain data integrity and resolve payroll inquiries. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of payroll experience, strong UKG and Excel skills, and a CPP bonus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience with multi-state experience a plus.
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems (UKG preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
• Comprehensive understanding of payroll laws, regulations, and tax compliance.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 600+ employees across multiple states.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Process and reconcile payroll data, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records in the HRIS and payroll systems.
• Handle payroll audits and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Prepare and submit tax filings, including W-2s, 1099s, and other required documentation.
• Stay updated on changes to payroll laws and regulations, implementing updates as needed.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure data integrity and resolve employee inquiries regarding payroll.
• Assist with system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements.
