Job summary

RE DRWire Defense Tech in San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking an Electrical Systems Lead to own the electrical architecture for the Air Vehicle IPT and drive robust, producible designs. You will coordinate with avionics, propulsion, systems engineering, and manufacturing to ensure integrated, safe electrical solutions.

You will guide power budgets, verification strategies, and test planning while mentoring junior engineers in a fast-paced, prototype-driven environment.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 8–12+ years of progressive experience in aircraft/UAS electrical system design.
• Experience leading electrical system or power architecture on complex aerospace systems.
• Experience in IPT or program-based engineering environments.
• Strong expertise in aircraft electrical power systems and wiring architectures.
• Proficiency with electrical CAD and harness design tools (Capital, Zuken, SolidWorks Electrical).
• Experience developing power budgets, load analysis, and protection schemes.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations and electrical safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the electrical engineering lead for the Air Vehicle IPT.
• Define and maintain aircraft electrical system architecture including power distribution.
• Own electrical requirements flowdown, trade studies, and system margins.
• Lead design reviews, change control, and configuration decisions.
• Design electrical power distribution, wiring harnesses, connectors, enclosures.
• Ensure electrical integration with avionics, propulsion, sensors, payloads.
• Define interfaces between electrical systems and airframe structures.
• Ensure compliance with safety, EMI/EMC, and environmental requirements.
• Guide analysis: power budgets, fault protection, redundancy strategies.
• Define test strategies: insulation resistance, continuity, power-on testing.
• Support ground/flight tests and anomaly resolution.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and technical guidance.
