Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in Moorpark, CA is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer who is an expert in circuit design with FPGA, video image processing, battery technology and UAV power systems.

You will select components, lead a small team and work with cross-functional groups to advance electronic systems for small UAVs. Responsibilities include modeling, design verification, documentation, supporting flight tests, and guiding budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• 12–15 years of aerospace R&D experience preferred.
• Expert in circuit design including RF, embedded control, FPGA, and video.
• Knowledge of LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB, and MIPI.
• Battery Management and Battery Charging knowledge.
• Familiarity with PCB design and battery-powered UAVs.
• Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Strong engineering fundamentals in math, physics, and material properties.

Responsibilities

• Lead electronics design for UAV systems with cross-functional teams.
• Perform and supervise design analyses and documentation.
• Support flight test operations and troubleshoot complex systems.
• Develop budgets and estimate labor and materials.
• Provide technical supervision across disciplines and guide a small team.
