Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced civil engineer to lead technical design for tunnels and underground structures. You will drive design across concept, preliminary, and detailed phases, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in North America.

The role emphasizes leveraging PLAXIS, BIM, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MicroStation to deliver safe, cost-effective solutions for major transportation, water, and energy projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
• PE license required or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
• 8–12+ years of experience in tunneling, underground structures, or related heavy civil projects.
• Experience delivering projects across Transportation, Water/Wastewater, Energy, and other sectors.
• Strong proficiency in tunnel design principles, standards, and methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver technical design and analysis for tunnels and underground structures through concept to detailed design.
• Support delivery of large tunneling projects, especially transportation programs.
• Provide technical leadership within project teams and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Review and validate calculations, reports, drawings, and specs for codes and standards.
• Apply PLAXIS, BIM, Civil 3D to improve design efficiency and project performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge within the team.
• Contribute technically to proposals and bids and support business development.
