Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a versatile Tunnel Engineer in Arlington, VA to join our tunnel resource group. You will contribute to underground design and construction projects across transportation and water sectors, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires a Bachelor's in civil/structural/geotechnical engineering, 5+ years of tunnel experience, and a PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering required; Master’s preferred.
• Professional engineer (PE) license preferred or able to obtain within a year.
• At least 5 years of experience in engineering consultancy focusing on tunnel/underground design.
• NCTI Certified is preferred
• Proficient in structural software STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalent.
• Proficient in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, GeoStudio, Slide, Rocscience; BIM tools knowledge advantageous.
• Demonstrable record in design with geotechnical engineering, ground characterization, and concrete/steel/foundation design.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of tunnelling projects in the U.S. and Canada.
• Oversee staff and field investigation programs for data collection.
• Contribute to detailed analyses for tunnels and underground structures.
• Develop field instrumentation programs and evaluate collected data.
• Manage staff producing design solutions and reviews of specs and drawings.
• Write client reports including technical memoranda and reports.
• Contribute to and prepare proposals for clients.
• Mentor junior and graduate engineers.
