Job summary

Travelers is seeking a Senior Counsel in California to handle high exposure insurance defense litigation. You will independently manage complex matters from inception to trial and appeal, leveraging trial experience to advocate effectively for insured clients and the company.

Expect collaboration with experts and mentoring of junior attorneys. The role requires a Juris Doctorate and an active license in good standing, with the ability to travel as needed and a strong track record in jury trials

Qualifications

• 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Ability to try cases to a jury and achieve favorable outcomes.
• Strong written and oral advocacy, including appeals where applicable.
• Solid knowledge of local jurisdiction practices and bench/bar norms.
• Leadership through mentoring and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle a caseload of higher exposure and complex litigation matters.
• Apply trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and produce persuasive pleadings and briefs.
• Attend court events, depositions, and related proceedings.
• Provide case analysis and strategic recommendations to insured clients and partners.
