Job summary

RK&K seeks a Senior Project Engineer to plan, design, and deliver transportation projects across the firm. You will work with engineers and PMs on Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3, and other delivery methods, using OpenRoads Designer for roadway design and reporting.

Fully remote candidates are considered, with a preferred hybrid setup in Fairfax, VA; travel may be required. You will lead technical design, mentor junior staff, ensure quality control, and contribute to proposals and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in transportation infrastructure design.
• Active Professional Engineer license in VA or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Proficient in OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for roadway design and modeling.
• Highly organized with strong written and verbal communication; able to work with dispersed teams.
• Familiarity with DOT standards and procedures; experience with multiple state DOTs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support technical design on alternative delivery transportation projects (highways, interchanges, tollways, transit corridors).
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across offices to develop design solutions.
• Serve as technical liaison between internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Develop and review plans, specs, cost estimates, and design reports using ORD.
• Participate in proposal development and design-build pursuits; deliver technical presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and support career development within the project team.
• Ensure quality control and compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Stay informed about industry trends and alternative delivery methods.
