Job summary

VHB is seeking a Transportation Planner - Project Manager to join our Virginia Transportation Systems team in Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach or Tysons, VA, or Washington, DC. The role focuses on leading multimodal projects, mentoring staff, and advancing strategic initiatives across public and private sectors.

You will collaborate with engineers, planners, and designers to improve mobility, manage budgets, and deliver technical memoranda and presentations for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in urban planning, civil engineering, transportation planning, or related field.
• 11+ years of experience in transportation planning/engineering (consulting preferred).
• Professional planning certification or PE (AICP/PE) required.

Responsibilities

• Lead multimodal transportation projects including corridor studies, safety audits, and operations analyses.
• Review technical traffic engineering work conducted by others.
• Perform and manage safety-focused planning efforts.
• Develop technical memoranda, reports, graphics, and presentations communicating complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support transportation policies and programs for Virginia communities.
• Lead public and stakeholder engagement, including workshops and online engagement.
• Manage tasks, budgets, and schedules for defined components of larger projects; contribute to project management activities.
• Contribute to proposals, project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
• Serve as a task or discipline lead on multidisciplinary projects.
• Manage projects and staff on technical and professional growth.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support VHB's Mid-Atlantic initiatives.
