Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineering Manager in Illinois. You will lead major tollway and interstate roadway projects, providing technical direction and teamwork across design disciplines.

The role requires a PE license or eligibility, 10+ years in transport engineering, and strong leadership. You will mentor staff, manage schedules, and help win new work. Chicago area offices support on-site collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.
• Typically 10+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Minimum of six years of roadway design or transportation engineering experience, including work for IDOT and/or the Illinois Tollway.
• Illinois Professional Engineer license, or the ability to obtain an Illinois license through reciprocity within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead roadway design and coordination for major Illinois Tollway projects.
• Provide day-to-day leadership, workload coordination, and technical direction for a team of engineers.
• Serve as project engineer, coordinating design activities, schedules, and deliverables.
• Coach and mentor staff; conduct performance reviews.
• Forecast staffing needs based on backlog and pursuits.
• Develop roadway design solutions for interstate, tollway, urban arterial projects.
• Direct construction plan development and contract document creation.
• Review complex calculations, reports, plans, and deliverables.
• Lead client relationships, scopes, and proposals.
• Travel for client meetings and site visits.
