Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a seasoned engineer to serve as the Responsible Charge Engineer, providing leadership over transportation planning, modeling, and traffic engineering for MEGA program activities. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, and coordinate with stakeholders, localities, and FHWA to ensure project delivery and compliance.

Key responsibilities include leading safety and traffic studies, preparing technical reports, and guiding performance of data collection

Qualifications

• Ability to analyze data, draw logical conclusions and document results and recommendations.
• Ability to apply federal, state, and local transportation rules, regulations, policies, and practices.
• Ability to apply roadway engineering design and state and federal standards related to highway design and construction.
• Ability to assess traffic conditions, analyze traffic data, and evaluate traffic impacts.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• Ability to supervise staff, programs, and budgets.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of crash data sources and traffic management practices.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Responsible Charge Engineer by administering and providing management and oversight of transportation planning, modeling, and traffic engineering functions.
• Supervise and train professional engineering and technical staff.
• Lead studies in relation to Engineering, Safety, Crash, Traffic, and Transportation Planning.
• Prepare and review technical reports and manage project teams.
• Coordinate activities with management, stakeholders, customers, and FHWA.
• Lead traffic forecasting and roundabout analysis using regional models.
