Job summary

VDOT is seeking a responsible charge engineer to coordinate Locally Administered and Special Funded projects across the District. You will work with localities and VDOT staff to ensure projects proceed on time and within budget.

You will review Transportation Alternatives applications, participate in statewide policy discussions, supervise engineers, and provide leadership for project planning, scheduling, and technical approvals. Strong communication and team leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience applying roadway design criteria, hydraulics and construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
• Experience applying roadway safety standards and special designs to roadway projects.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate administration of Locally Administered and Special Funded projects; work with localities and staff to keep projects on time and on budget.
• Review and scope yearly Transportation Alternatives applications; participate in statewide policy and program management discussions.
• Supervise and train professional engineering and technical staff; lead engineering projects across the department.
• Provide project management and leadership; supervise, organize, and direct work activities of staff and resources.
• Communicate with internal staff, local government, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs.
• Prepare and review technical reports; act as team and technical lead on projects and proposals.
