Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a Senior Responsible Charge Engineer to oversee transportation planning, modeling, and traffic engineering functions across MEGA program activities. You will supervise staff, coordinate with MPOs, PDCs, and localities, and provide project management leadership for the technical review and approval of engineering work.

• Ability to analyze data, draw logical conclusions and document results and recommendations.
• Ability to apply advanced engineering planning principles and practices to a variety of complex transportation projects.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences and to make presentations and conduct meetings.
• Ability to develop safety policy and procedures.
• Ability to effectively lead and coach professional and technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead studies in relation to Engineering, Safety, Crash, Traffic, and Transportation Planning.
• Provide oversight and manage data collection, processing, and analysis for projects.
• Lead traffic forecasting and roundabout analysis using regional models and data.
• Lead consultant staff in planning and conducting proactive analysis with respect to SHSP emphasis areas.
• Prepare and review technical reports and budgets for planning grants and on-call consultants.
• Lead projects across functional areas of the department and coordinate with FHWA and stakeholders.
