Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer in Bamberg County to coordinate county-wide maintenance and installation activities, including driveways, signage, drainage, and vegetation management.

You will supervise field crews, maintain reports and cost records, and prepare material orders and schedules. The role entails safety meetings, inter-county coordination for Jet-Vac work, and vendor contract support.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate county-wide maintenance and installation activities for driveways, signage, pavement markings, and drainage structures.
• Supervise all field crews in Bamberg County and maintain weekly/monthly reports, timesheets and cost records.
• Prepare orders for materials, reports, and schedules; ensure timely processing and material availability.
• Coordinate Jet-Vac truck scheduling with other counties; supervise the Specialty Equipment Crew Lead Operator.
• Recommend and issue personnel actions; participate in annual performance evaluations.
• Assist in preparing contracts and communicating with vendors for resurfacing, sidewalk repairs, vegetation control and tree removal.
