Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) seeks a Senior Transportation Consultant to join the Virginia transportation team, with bases in Virginia Beach, Richmond, or Williamsburg and a hybrid work setup.

The role focuses on leading roadway design, producing project documents, mentoring CAD staff, and delivering high-quality, compliant plans for diverse markets and clients across the state.

Qualifications

• 15+ years on complex transportation projects including roadway design and related disciplines.
• Experience developing roadway plans, construction docs, specifications and reports.
• Virginia locality/VDOT project experience is preferred.
• GIS experience is a plus and CAD proficiency expected.

Responsibilities

• Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for projects with limited supervision.
• Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by PM, review agencies, and client needs.
• Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer.
• Determines CAD usage and application on projects.
• Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design.
• Aids in preparation of technical specifications.
• Ensures overall consistency, quality, technical accuracy, and design on projects.
• Provides CAD mentoring for other designers and engineers.
