Job summary

VHB’s Senior Transportation Consultant in Virginia Beach, Richmond, or Williamsburg delivers engineering drawings, plan sets, and reports for diverse transportation projects, guiding project teams from concept through construction with limited supervision. You will mentor CAD designers, coordinate with agencies, and ensure quality across roadway design, maintenance of traffic, and stormwater components.

A BS in civil engineering and 15+ years' experience are preferred; GIS and CAD tools are used

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering preferred.
• 15+ years of experience working on complex transportation projects.
• Experience with roadway plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports.
• GIS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity with limited supervision
• Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by the Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs
• Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer
• Determines CAD usage and application on projects
• Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design
• Aids in preparation of technical specifications
• Ensures overall consistency, quality, technical accuracy, and design on projects
• Provides CAD mentoring for other designers and engineers
