Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. seeks a Senior Transportation Consultant to support the Transportation team across Virginia Beach, Richmond, and Williamsburg.

You will develop drawings, lead design tasks, and mentor staff on CAD workflows, contributing to a range of projects for state and local agencies. The role requires a civil engineering degree and 15+ years of transportation experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, and project-management tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering preferred.
• 15+ years of experience on complex transportation projects (roadway design, maintenance of traffic, grading, utilities, stormwater).
• Experience developing roadway plans, construction documents, specifications, and reports.
• Experience with GIS is a plus; GIS used to enhance projects.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Geopak, Open Roads, and MS Office.
• Experience with plan set production for Virginia locality or VDOT projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for a variety of projects.
• Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs.
• Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations.
• Determines CAD usage and application on projects.
• Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts identified during design.
• Aids in preparation of technical specifications.
• Ensures overall consistency, quality, and design on projects.
• Provides CAD mentoring for other designers and engineers.
