Job summary

WSP USA in Detroit, MI, is seeking a Full-Time Senior Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management Team. The role involves field inspections for MDOT and other DOT projects, data collection, and complex reporting to ensure quality and contract compliance.

The candidate must bring extensive inspection experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to lead tasks and train junior staff while coordinating with clients and contractors on site.

Qualifications

• Minimum 11 years of relevant post-education experience in construction inspection.
• Advanced knowledge of inspection principles, practices, methods and techniques.
• Strong knowledge of codes, regulations and record-keeping for construction projects.
• Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans/specifications.
• Excellent written and oral communication for technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections for MDOT and other DOT/municipal projects, including railroads, roads, bridges, and ITS.
• Collect, analyze, and document field data from multiple sources for inspection activities.
• Provide guidance on inspection, construction, and functioning of infrastructure according to standards.
• Lead inspections on complex projects and document findings with reports, drawings, and diagrams.
• Verify calculations, change orders, and interpretation of plans; resolve discrepancies.
• Monitor progress to ensure quality and contract compliance; document issues.
• Coordinate field/work plans and equipment needs with project team and client.
• Train and guide entry-level staff and communicate with contractors.
• Assist in data interpretation to develop action plans for risk mitigation.
• Stay current with latest inspection practices and company policies.
