Job summary

1898 & Co. is seeking a Transmission Planning Consultant to shape the future of electric grid projects in North America. You will perform advanced transmission system studies, support client decision‑making with technical and economic analyses, and contribute to project execution.

The role emphasizes experience with PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, and other industry tools, plus strong regulatory and communication skills. Based in Chicago with potential travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program with 3 years of related experience; or Master's degree with 2 years; or PhD with 1 year.
• Experience with power system planning and operations including stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis.
• Knowledge of NERC, FERC, and regional requirements; production costing; risk assessment; TPL compliance; and generator interconnection.
• Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to work on multiple projects and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage, harmonics, and other transmission studies.
• Apply regulatory requirements and regional constraints in analyses and proposals.
• Independently execute planning studies using industry-standard tools (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod).
• Develop technical assumptions for life-cycle cost analysis including capital and O&M costs.
• Prepare technical reports and client presentations; support business development and client meetings.
