Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Infectious Disease Research Immunology team in Cambridge, MA. You will lead translational immunology studies that inform vaccine and therapeutic candidate decisions, leveraging preclinical models and human samples.

The role blends scientific leadership with hands-on experimental work and student mentorship. You will identify key questions across programs, develop study plans, and interpret results within biological and clinical contexts.

Qualifications

• PhD in immunology or related field with strong immune-cell biology background.
• Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with primary immune cells and cellular assays.
• Experience leading cross-disciplinary scientific work.
• Ability to translate questions into study plans and decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead translational immunology strategy for assigned programs, identifying immune mechanisms to investigate.
• Design and lead studies using human samples and preclinical models to characterize immune-cell responses.
• Provide experimental expertise and scientific oversight; develop fit-for-purpose assays and controls.
• Collaborate with virology, antigen design, clinical development, and biomarkers teams to integrate findings.
• Lead studies in immunology areas such as B-cell/antibody biology, T-cell responses, or innate immunity.
• Support platform studies and new discovery efforts by evaluating emerging methods.
• Set scientific priorities with program teams and communicate rationale and uncertainties clearly.
• Mentor scientists and research associates and strengthen experimental design.
