Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Chief Traffic Engineer to lead the traffic engineering discipline across multiple Illinois office locations. The role involves QA/QC oversight of traffic models, reports, and ITS design, ensuring standards are met on active projects nationwide.

You will mentor staff, guide business development, and support proposals and client interactions. The ideal candidate has 15+ years of traffic engineering experience, a BS/MS in civil engineering, and a PE

Qualifications

• Traffic analysis of intersections, interchanges, and corridors.
• Understanding of HSM, HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, PROWAG.
• Strong communication abilities, especially in explaining technical concepts to engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
• Experience with geometric design of intersections and interchanges.
• CAD experience with Microstation/OpenRoads.
• Familiarity with travel demand modeling concepts (Visum, Cube, TransCAD).

Responsibilities

• Lead QA/QC reviews of traffic simulation models, intersection and interchange design studies, engineering reports, and traffic signal/ITS design documents to support consistent standards across project teams.
• Monitor the quality and progress of traffic engineering tasks on active projects, ensuring production requirements and project expectations are met.
• Collaborate with project managers, senior technical staff, and other disciplines to execute significant projects across the country.
• Lead traffic and transportation engineering analysis and design tasks.
• Serve as a senior technical advisor to clients across markets and help recruit, mentor, and develop staff across multiple office locations.
• Participate in the development of an internal and external professional development program.
• Provide technical support for project proposals, presentations, and interviews; assist in developing project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
