Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an experienced Traffic Engineer to supervise engineers and technicians, serve as the traffic expert, and advance transportation projects throughout Louisiana. The role involves design, review, and improvements of traffic control devices, signals, signing, and roadway geometry while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Louisiana professional engineering license.
• Two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience.
• Master's degree substitutes for one year; Doctorate substitutes for two years; advanced degrees max two years.
• Applicants licensed in states other than Louisiana must obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises lower-level engineers, engineer interns, engineering technicians, and other staff.
• Assigns work, priorities, deadlines, and monitors progress for quality and compliance.
• Conducts studies and retimes state-maintained signals for optimum efficiency.
• Designs and submits signal plans for construction projects.
• Reviews engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.
• Provides guidance on traffic control devices, signals, pavement markings, and traffic operation policies.
• Performs other duties including emergency or disaster support.
