Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an experienced engineer to serve as the Assistant to the Project Engineer, supervising lower‑level engineers or technicians and supporting construction project delivery, field engineering, and documentation in accordance with DOTD standards.

The role advances transportation projects by applying engineering principles, coordinating activities, and conducting compliance reviews.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
• One of the following: two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience.
• A master's degree substitutes for one year of professional engineering experience; a doctorate substitutes for two years; advanced degrees substitute for up to two years; no substitution for licensed experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and coordinates construction inspection, contract administration, sampling, testing, surveying, and documentation for assigned projects.
• Supervises and trains engineers and engineering technicians on construction projects.
• Reviews and approves construction documentation, quantities, diaries, test reports, estimates, and other project records.
• Coordinates with contractors, consultants, utilities, officials, and internal staff to resolve issues and maintain progress.
• Reviews project schedules, changes, and contract compliance; ensures work follows plans and applicable provisions.
