Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Traffic Data/Engineering Specialist to support planning, design, and operations with reliable data and technical analysis. Work closely with district engineers and planners to ensure accurate traffic data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities include leading data collection efforts, conducting speed and volume studies, and developing traffic control plans using CADD.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED with 3 years sub-professional engineering experience; OR six months of related experience plus 3 years sub-professional engineering experience.
• Requires 18 semester hours in specified fields (architecture, cartography, construction management, drafting, engineering, etc.).
• No Civil Service test score is required to be considered for this vacancy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates traffic data collection with District personnel and stakeholders.
• Leads traffic data collection and analysis per Department procedures and standards.
• Conducts and evaluates traffic studies: peak-hour counts, 24-hour volumes, speed studies, diagrams, collisions.
• Compiles, analyzes, and presents traffic data; recommends corrective actions.
• Uses CADD to develop traffic control plans, TSIs, and other traffic designs.
• Assists with development and revision of traffic-related specifications, procedures, and standards.
• Reviews traffic studies, plans, and specifications including speed, pedestrians, signals, and signage.
• Develops scopes for Section 27 projects and related initiatives.
• Participates in project and public meetings to provide traffic engineering input.
• Updates Department traffic engineering policies and procedures.

Education

High school diploma or GED + 3 years sub-professional engineering experience

18 semester hours in architecture, cartography, construction management, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, math, or physics

6 months experience in sub-professional engineering or related fields + 3 years sub-professional engineering experience
