Job summary

Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County seeks a senior Traffic Engineer to lead timing plans, coordinate corridor retiming, and support real-time operations with NDOT. This role works with signal technicians, contractors, and partner agencies to optimize Nashville's traffic signal network.

The incumbent should hold a PE license and have extensive engineering experience, including field verification and cost-estimate preparation for signal projects. Valid driver license required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and eight (8) years of post-degree engineering experience, including four (4) years as a licensed Professional Engineer.
• Ambitious applicants must obtain Tennessee PE licensure prior to probation completion.
• Candidate must hold valid driver license and be eligible for state licensure.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and evaluates traffic signal timing plans for various intersection types.
• Leads corridor-wide signal retiming initiatives using field observations and performance measures.
• Supports real-time operational adjustments during events and emergencies.
• Coordinates with other departments and State agencies on departmental services and programs.
• Provides engineering guidance and technical support for signal technicians and problem-solving.
