Job summary

Southern Search partners with a well-established Nashville engineering firm to hire a Senior Traffic Engineer who will own signal design, corridor studies, and traffic-control projects. This role moves you from analysis to leadership, with PTOE certification support and a strong bonus plan, plus full medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) with employer match.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Active PE license in Tennessee.
  • 5+ years of traffic engineering experience.
  • TDOT or Tennessee agency experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for reports and presentations.
  • Comfort with data analysis and visualization tools.
  • PTOE certification is a plus, not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead traffic impact studies, operational analyses, and corridor studies that shape transportation planning decisions.
  • Design traffic control devices: signals, signing, pavement marking, and temporary traffic control plans.
  • Run traffic engineering software including Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, TransModeler, and AutoTurn.
  • Build reports, technical memos, and presentations for clients, stakeholders, and public meetings.
  • Get out in the field to collect data and validate project recommendations.
  • Work directly with TDOT and local municipalities on project delivery.
  • Draft and design using OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
  • Keep everything compliant with MUTCD, AASHTO, NACTO, and TDOT standards.
  • Own project timelines and budgets while keeping communication with your team and clients.

Transportation & Traffic Engineering

Southern Search is partnering with a well-established engineering on a search for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer for their growing Nashville transportation team. This is a firm that's been steadily building out its TDOT and municipal traffic work across Tennessee, and they're looking for someone who wants real ownership over signal design, corridor studies, and traffic control projects, not just another seat filling reports.
