Job summary

HDR is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin office. You will perform complex traffic engineering projects, prepare traffic signal plans, analyses, and PS&E documents, and help grow our Wisconsin practice.

You will collaborate with transportation professionals across HDR's Midwest network, lead studies, mentor staff, and develop client relationships while taking on increasing leadership responsibilities as the team expands.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license required.
• Hands-on traffic design using CAD (MicroStation, AutoCAD).
• Experience with traffic analysis tools (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Aimsun).
• Familiarity with safety software (Highway Safety Software).
• Excellent verbal and written communications; client relations.
• Demonstrated leadership or project-management experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex traffic engineering projects and prepare reports.
• Lead traffic studies and design efforts across disciplines.
• Collaborate with roadway and planning teams.
• Make design and engineering decisions as needed.
• Serve as technical specialist or project manager on mid-size projects.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Mentor early-career staff and grow the practice.
