Job summary

HDR is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin office and help grow our traffic engineering practice in Wisconsin. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who will take on increasing technical, project management, client development, and team leadership responsibilities over time.

The successful candidate will collaborate with traffic engineers across Wisconsin and HDR's Midwest offices on a diverse mix of projects, bringing strong traffic engineering

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in traffic engineering.
• Experience with Wisconsin transportation agencies and WisDOT standards.
• Experience with traffic operations, safety studies, and corridor studies.
• Experience mentoring or leading technical tasks.
• Strong communication skills and client relationship development.
• Interest in growing a traffic engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex traffic engineering projects, prepare traffic signal plans and PS&E documents.
• Lead and support traffic engineering studies and design efforts, including operations and safety analyses.
• Collaborate with roadway, planning, and other multidisciplinary teams.
• Make design and engineering procedure decisions as needed.
• Act as a technical specialist or project manager on mid-size projects.
• Develop and maintain relationships with transportation clients and partners.
• Mentor early-career staff and guide team growth.
