Job summary

GFT is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our Boston-based Northeast Transportation Team in a hybrid role. You will lead design and delivery of traffic projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with project managers and public clients to enhance regional mobility.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree with transportation focus, PE licensure or plan to obtain within 1–2 years, and 7–10 years of traffic experience. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Synchro/SimTraffic is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with focus in transportation from ABET-accredited university.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure within 1–2 years.
• 7–10 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering and design.
• Synchro and SimTraffic experience.
• Knowledge of MUTCD & HCM.
• Plan development with AutoCAD (required); Microstation a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word for engineering and business applications.
• Strong teamwork, initiative, organization, and collaboration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review design calculations.
• Research design alternatives, code requirements and present findings.
• Prepare and review reports, contract drawings, cost estimates and specifications.
• Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding results and progress.
• Lead and mentor entry-level engineers.
• Attend meetings with clients, subconsultants and project stakeholders.
• Engage in business development activities including information gathering, preliminary design and proposals.
• Develop accurate engineering designs and plans within budgets and schedules.
• Maintain professional knowledge through workshops and publications.
