Job summary

magniX, based in the Pacific Northwest, seeks a Sr. Tool Design Engineer in Everett, WA to lead tooling development for in-house manufacturing of electric propulsion systems.

The role covers NPI from design through entry-into-service, coordinating with Design & Quality Engineering and using SolidWorks to design manufacturing tools. You will drive process improvements, manage tooling vendors, and advance automation while ensuring GD&T and tolerance stack-ups meet aerospace standards.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 5 years tooling design engineering experience in electric motors, aerospace manufacturing, or related industry.
• CAD modeling experience; SolidWorks preferred.
• Knowledge of assembly processes, rapid prototyping, fabrication, and tool design.
• Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Ability to take tooling from concept through validated hardware with minimal onboarding.
• Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques.

Responsibilities

• Design, procure, install, and validate tooling and equipment.
• Propose, develop, and test automated, semi-automated, and manual systems.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T to ensure tooling holds critical characteristics.
• Participate in the design review process for manufacturability and assembly.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and delays.
• Find ways to reduce assembly time/cost and improve quality through tooling or equipment.
• Define, justify, and schedule tooling and capital equipment investments for production ramp.
• Develop tooling cost estimates and lead times to support ROM and planning.
• Manage tooling vendors and machine shops through quoting, fabrication, inspection, and acceptance.
• Design inspection fixtures and gauges with Quality, supporting gage R&R.
• Collaborate with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Test teams.
