Job summary

Verizon is seeking a Distinguished Threat Hunter and operational lead to architect and execute advanced threat hunting across enterprise environments. You will mentor staff, translate complex threat data into actionable defense, and report to executives on high-priority investigations.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Threat Intelligence, Incident Response, SOC, and Security Engineering teams while maturing detection capabilities and workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or eight or more years of relevant experience.
• Six+ years of specialized experience in threat hunting, incident response, or advanced threat analytics.
• Experience investigating network protocol anomalies and telemetry from network edge devices.
• Proven experience mentoring, leading, or directing technical security staff.
• Advanced proficiency with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk), query languages (KQL, AQL), regex, and scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Go).

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute high-priority hunt missions using threat intel and telemetry.
• Analyze MITRE ATT&CK TTPs and translate findings into proactive defense strategies.
• Provide expert direction during major cybersecurity incidents and investigations.
• Mentor and develop team members, guiding junior analysts and hunting staff.
• Synthesize findings into strategic summaries for executives and stakeholders.
• Advance hunting methodologies, detections, and automated workflows across SIEM/EDR/data lakes.
• Collaborate with Threat Intelligence, Incident Response, SOC, and Security Engineering teams.
• Develop custom detection rules (YARA, SIGMA, KQL, AQL) and IOC/IOA lists.
• Maintain readiness for urgent security events, including off-hours.
