Job summary

Verizon is seeking a Distinguished Threat Hunter and operational lead to architect and execute advanced threat hunting strategies in a remote role. You will mentor junior staff, advise leadership, and collaborate with Threat Intelligence, IR, SOC, and Security Engineering to strengthen defenses.

You will develop custom detection rules (YARA, SIGMA, KQL, AQL) and drive cross-functional efforts across SIEM, EDR, and data lakes, while maintaining readiness for urgent security events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or eight or more years of relevant work experience, demonstrated through work, military, or training.
• Six or more years of specialized experience in threat hunting, incident response, or advanced threat analytics.
• Experience investigating network protocol anomalies and telemetry from edge devices (firewalls, VPNs, routers).
• Proven experience mentoring, leading, or directing technical security staff and managing hunt engagements.
• Advanced proficiency with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk), query languages (KQL, AQL), regex, and scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Go).

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute complex, high-priority hunt missions using threat intelligence and telemetry to surface unknown threats.
• Analyze MITRE ATT&CK-aligned TTPs and translate findings into proactive defense strategies.
• Provide expert direction during major cyber incidents and high-risk investigations.
• Mentor and develop team members, offering technical guidance to analysts.
• Synthesize findings into strategic summaries and operational metrics for leadership.
