Job summary

Verizon is seeking a Distinguished Threat Hunter and operational lead to architect and execute advanced threat hunting strategies. You will mentor staff, advise leadership, and shape detection across SIEM, EDR, and data lake platforms.

Choose to work remotely from the United States as part of Verizon’s Cybersecurity organization, engaging cross-functionally to strengthen defense of assets and critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or eight or more years of relevant work experience, demonstrated through job-related work, military, or education.
• Six or more years of specialized experience in threat hunting, incident response, or advanced threat analytics.
• Experience investigating network protocol anomalies and telemetry from network edge appliances.
• Proven experience mentoring, leading, or directing technical security staff and hunt engagements.
• Advanced proficiency with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk), query languages (KQL, AQL), regex, and scripting/automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute complex, high-priority hunt missions using threat intelligence and multi-source telemetry.
• Analyze TTPs aligned to MITRE ATT&CK to translate findings into proactive defense and detection logic.
• Provide expert direction during major cyber security incidents and high-risk investigations.
• Mentor and develop team members, providing technical guidance to analysts of all levels.
• Summarize findings and metrics for executive leadership and stakeholders.
• Develop and mature hunting methodologies, detection capabilities, and automated workflows.
• Collaborate with Threat Intelligence, IR, SOC, and Security Engineering to bridge detection, response, and remediation.
• Create custom detection rules across multiple technologies (YARA, SIGMA, KQL, AQL) and IOAs/IOCs.
• Maintain readiness to respond to urgent security events off-hours when needed.
