Job summary

Therm-x of California seeks a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to own thermal/ mechanical design of brazed and welded heater assemblies from concept to production in Hayward, CA. You will establish customer requirements, lead the design, and coordinate prototype builds with machinists and a remote team behind them.

The role requires 8+ years in mechanical design, strong CAD/GD&T skills, and experience with high-temperature hardware. Occasional travel to Mexico may be needed as production transfers occur.

Qualifications

• Experience leading hardware design for high-temperature systems.
• Proven ability to deliver concepts to production with teams.
• Strong heat transfer and thermal-mechanical know-how.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and GD&T documentation.
• Experience coordinating with technicians, machinists, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Establish product requirements with customers and internal teams; develop concepts and align early.
• Own mechanical and thermal design of heater and thermal-assembly products and release CAD and GD&T packages.
• Select materials and joining processes for high-temperature service and design for CTE mismatch.
• Perform hand calculations and thermal/structural FEAs; correlate with test data.
• Guide prototype builds and testing with shop personnel and suppliers; review data and iterate.
• Lead projects: schedule, cost, risk; manage reviews and first-article approvals; support production builds.
• Develop AI-assisted workflows for design documentation and analysis; minimize paperwork.
• Mentor engineers and build reusable design rules and templates.
