JOB OVERVIEW

Target Hiring Range for this position is: $120,000-$140,000

The Sergeant at Arms Printing, Graphics, and Direct Mail (PGDM) department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Technology Solutions Specialist to join our team. This role will primarily focus on collaborating with the Technical Manager to provide technical support and assistance for internal applications. The successful candidate will also play a key role in the implementation and deployment of new technology solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems. In addition, optimal system performance and business continuity will be supported through advanced strategies for fault tolerance, monitoring, automation, and optimization. Key responsibilities include developing failover systems, load-balancing solutions, and geographically dispersed systems to minimize the impact of disruptions, along with testing recovery procedures and implementing continuous monitoring for early issue detection. The Senior Technology Solutions Specialist will optimize workflows using lean methodologies and systems thinking, automate tasks for efficiency, and collaborate with teams to integrate systems and meet evolving business needs while identifying opportunities for process improvement, streamlining, and automation, and working toward their implementation. Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to applications and systems, as well as conducting regular system maintenance and updates to ensure optimal performance and security, will also be crucial responsibilities of this role. This position will align technical solutions with organizational goals, document best practices, and upgrade systems with minimal oversight, ensuring redundancy and failover capabilities are integrated into planning and execution. Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties

Deploys and upgrades software solutions and operating systems, implementing system and server modifications to meet the needs of the organization. Conducts compatibility evaluations of new software versions for applications supported by other CIO groups to ensure no adverse impact on the operating system or other applications. Leads market research, evaluation, design, and implementation of technology solutions to meet business requirements. Monitors the impact of technological developments, identifies emerging technologies, and scopes potential Senate utility. Leads cross-organizational teams in communication, documentation, design, deployment, governance, and ongoing support of complex IT systems. Develops and maintains technical support documentation and standard operating procedures, and participates in Change Management. Serves as the highest-level internal escalation point for issues affecting supported solutions. As necessary, works with external vendors to solve problems that cannot be resolved internally. Other duties, as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required Education

High School Diploma/GED.

Required Work Experience
  • 5-8 years of related experience.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • 5+ years of experience in systems architecture and/or IT operations, with experience using monitoring tools, automation platforms, and cloud technologies.

  • Mastery or expertise in writing complex SQL queries to retrieve, update, and delete data from relational databases.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to gather requirements and design integration solutions.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with the latest technologies and tools in application support.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple support requests simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Working Conditions
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late-night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • The U.S. Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday or while the Senate is in session. As such, maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, and occasionally on holidays. Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, or support our alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Sedentary with extended periods of sitting and standing.
