Job summary

City and County of San Francisco is seeking a Principal Technology Engineer – Security Specialist to lead complex security projects citywide. The role oversees architecture, implementation, and compliance across information systems, with a focus on privacy controls and incident response.

As the top technical authority for the Security specialty, you will mentor engineers, guide policy, and drive strategic initiatives in a dynamic civil service environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in CS/CE/IS or closely-related field.
• Five (5) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components of a system or platform.
• One year of additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree.
• Completion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.
• Note: If an applicant is not qualified, they may reapply after one month upon meeting minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Architects, designs, implements, maintains and operates information system security and privacy controls; documents operation and outputs.
• Analyses and recommends security controls in acquisition, development and change management lifecycle; ensure compliance.
• Analyses and recommends controls in business processes related to information systems; ensure compliance.
• Monitors information systems for security incidents, vulnerabilities and privacy risks; reports trends to IT or exec management.
• Oversees response to information system security incidents, including investigation and countermeasures; coordinates with third-party responders.
• Oversees administration of authentication and access controls, provisioning and deprovisioning of user accounts and permissions.
