TheDallas CollegeFacilitiesManagementDepartment supports the facility needs forDallas Collegewhile providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of theCollege's physical assets.The Facilities Management Department is responsible forapproximately 5,000,000 sq.ft.of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County.The Senior Access Control Technician position supports that effort through managing the College keys and access control systems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced electronic access control systems, including programming, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Traditional locksmithing practices, such as key duplication, re-keying, and lock installation
  • Surveillance camera systems, including installation, configuration, and video management software.
  • Staff supervision principles, including scheduling, performance evaluation, and task delegation.
  • Institutional security policies, industry standards, and applicable codes or regulations
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as TMA, for tracking work orders and time
  • Experience with campus or similar door hardware and keying systems, Avigilon preferred.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills to guide, train, and mentor staff.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for access control and surveillance systems.
  • Proficiency with software and hardware related to electronic and mechanical security systems.
  • Customer service skills to maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise a team effectively, delegate responsibilities, and monitor performance.
  • Ability to develop and implement procedures for system maintenance, repair, and upgrades.
  • Ability to document work in a CMMS and generate reports on equipment and personnel performance.
  • Ability to manage budgets, track expenses, and plan for future system upgrades or expansions.
  • Ability to stay updated on emerging technologies in access control and security systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use an enterprise resource management system to manage budgets, procure parts and labor, write performance reports, etc.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage a team of access control technicians, including hiring, training, scheduling, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational standards within the department.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and programming of electronic access systems, including Avigilon proximity card systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex issues related to door hardware, card readers, and system software.
  • Develop access schedules, permissions, and system configurations for multiple campus locations.
  • Manage and maintain the master key system, ensuring proper documentation and security protocols.
  • Oversee lock installation, repair, re-keying, and key duplication services provided by technicians.
  • Conduct regular audits of key inventories and access control permissions to ensure compliance.
  • Supervise the installation and maintenance of IP-based and analog surveillance camera systems.
  • Coordinate with campus security teams to optimize camera coverage and resolve system issues.
  • Ensure integration between access control, surveillance, and other security systems for seamless operation.
  • Stay updated on regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Perform routine audits and inspections to maintain system integrity and identify areas for improvement.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for escalated issues or requests related to access control and surveillance.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, IT, and security teams to implement projects and resolve challenges.
  • Provide excellent customer service to faculty, staff, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed records of work orders, system configurations, and equipment inventories in a CMMS such as TMA.
  • Generate reports on departmental performance, equipment condition, and service requests.
  • Manage budgets, track expenditures, and recommend purchases or upgrades as needed.
  • Completes required College professional hours as required.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over,stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching,kneeling,or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50lbs., lifting 10-80lbs., carrying 10-50lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping.May require working in adverse weather conditions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • (5) years of related building access control/surveillance, and/or traditional lock/key systems experience.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
