Job summary

Salas O’Brien, Inc. is seeking a Technical Engineering Design Manager in the Baltimore area to lead a multidisciplinary team through all phases of design for high-hazard, federal programs.

You will coordinate across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, civil, and environmental leads from concept to construction-ready design and beyond. The role emphasizes security, risk management, and client interaction with DoE/NNSA programs, requiring a PE license, 15+ years

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum of 15 years design experience on federal/high‑hazard facilities.
• Minimum of 5 years project management leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with design‑build and progressive design development.
• Knowledge of ICD 705, IBC H-2 or similar; DOE/NNSA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team through all design phases.
• Translate client requirements into Basis of Design and progressive design packages.
• Manage design-phase value engineering and constructability reviews; long-lead items.
• Resolve cross-disciplinary design conflicts before construction.
• Oversee design quality control and progressive design review cycles.
• Coordinate with client's security and program stakeholders.
