Job summary

Oliver James Group is partnering with a publicly traded financial services company in Raleigh, NC to recruit a Senior Manager, Technical Accounting and Policy for the corporate accounting and finance organization. The role leads research, interpretation, and implementation of US GAAP and SAP, and develops robust accounting policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience with technical accounting and policy.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP with ability to interpret complex guidance.
• Experience within Property & Casualty insurance industry strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with SAP, NAIC reporting requirements, and insurance-specific accounting topics.
• Experience supporting SEC reporting requirements within a publicly traded organization preferred.
• Background in Big Four/public accounting or corporate accounting policy desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare technical accounting position papers and communicate complex conclusions to senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across accounting and finance functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead research, interpretation, and implementation of complex accounting standards under US GAAP and SAP.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance corporate accounting policies for consistency and regulatory alignment.
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda on complex transactions and changes in guidance.
• Support SEC filings (Forms 10-K and 10-Q) with accurate application of policies.
• Evaluate impact of new FASB ASUs and NAIC guidance; lead implementation where applicable.
• Serve as a policy resource to cross-functional finance teams including investments, reinsurance, actuarial.
• Advise on new business initiatives, acquisitions, and reinsurance arrangements.
• Coordinate with external auditors and internal stakeholders to resolve accounting matters and support audits.
