Job summary

Fervo Energy seeks a Senior Accountant, Technical Accounting to support monthly close, reconciliations, and technical research. You will partner with Accounting, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and auditors to translate complex transactions into clear accounting conclusions and journal entries.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of Big Four or equivalent experience, strong US GAAP knowledge, and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3+ years of Big Four public accounting experience, or 5+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience with meaningful technical accounting exposure
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to research, document, and support accounting conclusions
Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, technical memos, and audit-ready documentation
Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with complex agreements, financial models, valuations, and large data sets
Ability to work cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Operations, Commercial, external advisors, and auditors
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple high-priority matters under tight reporting timelines

Responsibilities

Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities including journal entries and reconciliations.
Record and reconcile activity in debt, stock compensation, derivatives, leases, intercompany balances, and structured transaction accruals.
Own the end-to-end lease accounting process, including LeaseQuery, and coordinate with Land team and lease stakeholders.
Analyze financial results and balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies with cross-functional stakeholders.
Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, or standardize recurring accounting and close workstreams.
Draft technical accounting memos and position papers for simple-to-complex topics.
Review lease contracts under ASC 842, including geothermal leases.
Support accounting assessments for procurement contracts, PPAs, and other arrangements.
Maintain audit-ready documentation detailing purpose, scope, guidance, inputs, conclusions, controls, and reviewer sign-off.
Communicate accounting conclusions in plain language to cross-functional stakeholders.
Prepare data for external valuation specialists and auditors, including stock-based compensation and warrants.
Manage technical accounting PBCs, auditor questions, and review comments.
Translate conclusions into journal entries, close procedures, and disclosures.
Partner with Financial Reporting on 10-Q, 10-K, and disclosure support for complex areas
