Job summary

Northern Trust, a Fortune 500 financial services company, seeks an experienced attorney to counsel senior management on technology and procurement matters. The role involves complex SaaS and licensing negotiations, cloud/on-prem strategies, and regulatory alignment across geographies.

Based in Chicago with a hybrid work model, you will help develop templates, playbooks, and terms of use for enterprise technology initiatives while collaborating with Data Privacy, Information Security, and Risk

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school and bar licensure in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience at a nationally recognized law firm or in-house legal department advising clients on technology-related matters.
• Proven experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing technology contracts including SaaS, licenses, data licenses, distributed ledger tech, and on-prem vs. cloud arrangements.

Responsibilities

• Support AI adoption initiatives while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Advise business units and engineering teams on technology contracts and vendor relationships.
• Develop and update contract templates, playbooks, terms of use, and tech-related documents for enterprise-wide use.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Privacy, Information Security, Risk, Compliance, Tax) across multiple jurisdictions.
• Advise committees (IT Risk, Cloud governance, AI) on new technology initiatives.
• Lead negotiations on strategic licenses, reseller agreements, and other corporate development deals.
• Provide legal support for technology initiatives and mentor other team members.
• Monitor regulatory developments impacting procurement and technology programs.
