Job description

The City of Bellevue is currently accepting applications for one regular full-time Senior Tax Operations Associate position within the Tax Division of the Finance and Asset Management Department reporting directly to the Assistant Tax Manager. This position is primarily responsible for routine taxpayer account review and reconciliation as well as providing taxpayer assistance by answering the tax phone line and responding to email inquiries.

Essential Functions Specific to the Job .

  • Review filed returns to ensure all forms have been filed, prepare necessary notifications and communicate with taxpayers to obtain missing information and educate businesses on proper tax filing,
  • Reconcile assigned business accounts for proper application of payments, calculate tax due or refunds owed and prepare necessary schedules to support findings,
  • Prepare and track balance due billings and tax refunds as assigned,
  • Review assigned delinquent accounts, issue past due notices and assessments, and work with businesses to file past due tax returns,
  • Perform daily processing activities related to tax return processing, daily downloads, and business licensing,
  • Field taxpayer inquiries via phone and email during regular business hours,
  • Work with other division staff on division workplan projects as assigned,
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from a 2-year college or university program related to business or accounting.
  • Four years of progressively responsible directly related work experience, with a minimum of one year at the Accounting Associate level or equivalent.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualification Criteria

  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to reconcile routine accounting transactions and taxpayer accounts
  • Ability to understand and interpret City and State tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze transactions and complex financial information.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage many projects and tasks simultaneously, with numerous interruptions, and meet strict deadlines while paying attention to details.
  • Proficient with Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet and database software; including but not limited to template use, formulas, and queries.
  • Ability to propose changes and streamline processes.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background investigation.

  • Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Flexible/Hybrid Working:A hybrid work schedule is available for this position following an orientation period working in the office after hire. Remote work for this position is subject to the department's operational needs and will be discussed with candidates during the selection process. Full-time remote work is not an available option . Once hired, employees must reside in the State of Washington and within reasonable commuting distance to Bellevue City Hall.
