Distinct | North America is seeking a Tax Director or senior-manager level candidate to join a small, independent CPA firm. This hybrid role offers responsibility for reviewing tax work and managing established client relationships as a partner transition occurs.
The firm, with 25–50 people, expects a CPA or EA, with MST valuable, and about 10+ years in public accounting. Real estate, construction, and valuation work are part of the practice.
If you’re ready to take work off a Partner’s desk, you want to know where that responsibility could take you.
At this independent CPA firm of around 25 to 50 people, one of the Partners is retiring. They’re looking for an experienced Manager, Senior Manager or Director who can step in, take ownership of reviewing tax work and start managing established client relationships as that Partner transitions out.
You’ll need to be confident technically and comfortable advising clients directly. In return, you’ll work closely with the Partners, have a say in the practice and a clear opportunity to progress towards Partnership yourself.
Your current title matters less than your ability to take that on.
The firm has grown through reputation and referrals, with no private equity behind it. It’s small enough to know everyone and see the impact of your work.
You’ll review tax work across closely held businesses, HNW individuals, trusts and estates, including real estate and construction clients. The firm also carries out business valuation work, adding another dimension to the practice.
You’ll also manage and, develop colleagues and bring strong technical knowledge to client conversations. A CPA or EA is important so you can deal directly with tax agencies, and an MST would be valuable too.
Progression won’t look identical for everyone. Some people move faster than others, depending on their experience and how they develop. The firm wants people to progress and is open to recognising when someone is ready to take on more.
You’ll likely bring around ten or more years of public accounting experience, including reviewing tax work, managing client relationships and developing staff. Experience in a smaller or mid sized firm would fit well, alongside a clear interest in progressing towards Partnership.
