Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant tax experience in public accounting or financial services (private equity/credit) preferred.
  • CPA, J.D., or LL.M. preferred.
  • Working knowledge of partnership and investment fund tax compliance and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and fund accountants to support timely tax return preparation and Schedule K-1 reporting.
  • Review tax return workpapers, partner allocations, tax estimates, and schedules prepared by external providers.
  • Review quarterly tax projections, withholding obligations, estimated payments, and year-end reporting (Forms 1099/1042).
  • Research complex tax matters, transaction structuring, and tax planning strategies.
  • Partner with investor relations to respond to investor requests for tax information.
  • Coordinate with external advisors and internal admins on tax notices, examinations, and audit responses.
  • Assist with accounting for new structures and transactions with finance/operations teams.
  • Prepare structure charts, spreadsheets, presentations, and tax-related documentation.
  • Maintain tax files, trackers, databases, and process documentation.
  • Support adoption of AI-enabled tax/workflow tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Exercise judgment in setting priorities and handle ad hoc tax questions.

Job description

We are seeking a Tax Senior Associate to join the tax function of a leading alternative investment organization. This role will support tax compliance, reporting, planning, and day-to-day advisory needs for credit and special situations investment strategies. The successful candidate will coordinate closely with internal investment, investor relations, finance, legal, treasury, and operations teams, as well as external tax advisors and fund administrators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and fund accountants to support the timely preparation of fund tax returns and Schedule K-1 reporting.
  • Review tax return workpapers, partner allocations, tax estimates, and related supporting schedules prepared by external service providers.
  • Review quarterly tax projections, federal and state withholding obligations, estimated payments, and year-end information reporting, including Forms 1099 and 1042.
  • Research and collaborate on complex tax matters, transaction structuring, and tax planning strategies.
  • Partner with investor relations to respond accurately and promptly to investor requests for tax information.
  • Coordinate with external advisors and internal administrators on federal, state, and local tax notices, examinations, and audit responses.
  • Liaise with finance and operations teams to support accurate accounting for new legal structures and transactions.
  • Prepare structure charts, spreadsheets, presentations, meeting materials, and other tax-related documentation.
  • Maintain and improve tax files, trackers, databases, and process documentation.
  • Support the evaluation and adoption of AI-enabled tax and workflow tools to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Exercise sound judgment in setting priorities and assist with ad hoc projects and day-to-day tax questions from the business.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, preferably with a Big Four firm, or within private credit, alternative investments, private equity, or a related financial services environment.
  • CPA, J.D., or LL.M. is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of partnership and investment fund tax compliance and reporting.
  • Ability to explain tax concepts clearly to colleagues and stakeholders without a tax background.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat is helpful.
