Our client is seeking a CPA to join its tax team and support the tax compliance, reporting, and planning needs of its investment funds and management company. The role will work closely with internal accounting and finance teams, external tax advisors, and investment professionals across a range of alternative investment structures.
The ideal candidate will have 5–8 years of tax experience, with a strong background in hedge funds, private equity, private credit, or another alternative investment environment, either in-house or at a Big 4/public accounting firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and review of partnership and investment fund tax returns, including Forms 1065 and related state filings.
- Oversee Schedule K-1 preparation, review, and distribution to investors.
- Support tax compliance for domestic and international hedge funds, private equity funds, and related investment entities.
- Review tax allocations, capital accounts, taxable income, and investor reporting.
- Partner with fund accounting teams to reconcile book-to-tax differences and ensure accurate tax reporting.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on federal, state, and local tax compliance.
- Assist with tax planning and structuring for new investments, fund launches, and other transactions.
- Analyze the tax implications of investments, distributions, carried interest, management fees, and partnership transactions.
- Support tax provision and reporting requirements for the management company and related entities.
- Research federal and state tax developments affecting alternative investment funds.
- Assist with tax audits and inquiries from federal and state taxing authorities.
- Work cross-functionally with Fund Accounting, Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, and Operations.
- Help improve tax processes, controls, documentation, and reporting infrastructure.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of relevant tax experience.
- Experience working with hedge funds, private equity funds, private credit funds, or other alternative investment structures.
- Strong experience with partnership taxation and Form 1065 compliance.
- Experience reviewing Schedule K-1s and investor tax reporting.
- Understanding of partnership allocations, capital accounts, and book-to-tax adjustments.
- Experience working with external tax advisors and managing multiple tax compliance workstreams.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced investment environment.
- CPA preferred.
- Big 4 or other public accounting experience with an alternative investment tax practice is highly valued.
