Job summary

SpectrumCareers seeks a Senior Tax Associate to join a growing tax team in Maryland. You will prepare and review complex returns for varied clients and work directly with managers and clients on planning and compliance initiatives.

The ideal candidate has public accounting tax experience (3–6+ years), CPA preferred, and strong analytical and communication skills to thrive in a fast-paced, client-focused environment with opportunities for advancement and bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA license or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
  • 3–6+ years of public accounting tax experience.
  • Experience preparing complex business and individual tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, S corporations, individuals, trusts, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Prepare Schedule K-1s and supporting tax workpapers.
  • Research federal and state tax issues and prepare technical memorandums when needed.
  • Assist with tax planning, estimated tax calculations, and year-end tax projections.
  • Review financial statements and trial balances to ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Work directly with clients to gather information, answer tax questions, and resolve notices from taxing authorities.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.
  • Mentor and review the work of junior staff while providing coaching and technical guidance.
  • Assist with IRS and state tax examinations as needed.
  • Stay current on changes to tax laws and accounting standards.

  • Experience with CCH Axcess, GoSystem, ProSystem fx, OneSource, or similar tax software.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior staff and serving as a client contact.
